Using electrodes attached to the skin, small electrical pulses are sent directly to the neurologically impaired muscles. These electrical stimuli are programmed by physical therapists and are coordinated by computer software, resulting in corresponding muscle contractions and limb movements, which the users would otherwise not be able to achieve on their own.

FES bikes allow people with little or no voluntary leg movement to pedal a stationary leg-cycle called an ergometer.

As the only clinic in Western Canada to offer Xcite technology to the public, Synaptic gives clients access to innovative hand therapy that focuses on fine motor movements such as self-feeding, dressing, writing, and driving. Using FES technology,  Xcite opens the door for upper extremity recovery and greater independence.

Used by individuals with traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, stroke, and multiple sclerosis. The Standing Frame provides alternative positioning for persons who may not have stood upright independently in years, if ever.

  • PoNS

    (Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator)

PoNS™ is an innovative, non-surgical medical device delivering mild electrical stimulation to the nerves on the surface of the tongue that connect with nerves in the brain. This stimulation, in conjunction with targeted therapeutic activities, has the potential to restore balance and gait in individuals with chronic balance deficit due to a mild or moderate Traumatic Brain Injury, MS, or Concussion.

Therastride is a full body weight support treadmill that enables people with varying degrees of mobility to be upright in a weight-bearing position for gait retraining. Therastride provides the prime therapy conditions to help the brain reorganize and reconnect with the body. Synaptic is the only outpatient rehabilitation facility in Western Canada to use Therastride as an integrated part of its rehabilitation program.

Hunova is a robotic system designed in response to a clinical need for objective evaluation and rehabilitation treatment tools that support doctors, physiotherapists, and patients throughout the course of treatment and recovery.

In the neurological field, Hunova is used for after-stroke functional re-education, for the treatment of degenerative diseases of the central nervous system and lesions of the peripheral nervous system, making the patient carry out exercises of postural control, balance, core stability and proprioceptive exercises.

The E-Pacer combines the powerful electric lift column and secure body support of the TRAM with the key gait training features of the classic Pacer. The result is more than the sum of its parts. The E-Pacer can be a life-changing solution for clients who have grown too large or too dependent to be safely transferred into manual gait trainers.
